Professor Leonard Lee from the National University of Singapore delivered seminar at MUST School of Business

On 29 August 2025, Professor Leonard Lee, Director of Lloyd’s Register Foundation Institute for the Public Understanding of Risk (IPUR) and Professor of Department of Marketing at the National University of Singapore Business School, was invited to the School of Business (MSB) of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) to deliver an academic seminar titled “Dimensions of Risk and Risk Management: Perceptions, Perils, and Perspectives”, with over 40 faculty members and students attended the seminar. Professor Lee provided participants with cutting-edge insights into the fields of risk perception and management, and supporting related research in marketing and public administration.

Professor Lee introduced the background and mission of IPUR, which is dedicated to studying public perceptions of social risks related to technology, the environment, and health, aiming to design public policies that enhance social welfare. He shared the differences in risk perceptions between the public and experts, using diabetes management as a case study, he analyzed how patients’ mindsets, informed by “growth mindset” theory, influence chronic disease health management. In the subsequent interactive session, faculty members and students engaged in lively discussions with Professor Lee on topics such as the psychological mechanisms of risk perception and practical applications, as well as risk communication strategies in cross-cultural contexts. The seminar concluded successfully in a vibrant atmosphere of academic exchange.

Professor Lee holds a doctoral degree in Management (Marketing) from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, United States. He has long focused on the impact of emotional and cognitive factors on consumer risk perception and risk management, applying his research findings to public policy domains such as healthcare and sustainable development. He is also an Associate Editor of the Journal of Consumer Psychology and the Journal of Public Policy and Marketing. He also served as a previous Associate Editor of Journal of Consumer Research, and the editorial board member for various international journals.
