Hosted by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP), The 2026 China Universities Speech and Debate Championships was successfully held from January 18 to 22 at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. The English Debate Team from the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) won the 2nd Runners-up in the Open Final, and successfully qualified for the FLTRP Speech and Debate National Team. The award-winning students include Zheng Shuting, a fourth-year Supply Chain Management student in the Bachelor of Business Administration program (BBA), and Zhou Yang, a third-year Human Resources Management student in the BBA program. This competition demonstrated the cross-cultural communication skills of the MSB students and reflected the School’s supportive teaching philosophy for students’ diverse development.

This year’s competition attracted top debate teams from both national and international prestigious universities. After going through a round-robin, knockout rounds, and the finals, the two MSB students were awarded the 2nd Runners-up in the Open Final for their solid English proficiency, meticulous thinking, and stable performance. They also achieved excellent individual results, with Zhou Yang ranked the “Open Best Speakers (Second Place)” and Zheng Shuting ranked the “Open Best Speakers (Third Place)”.

With the excellent performance in the competition, both of them have successfully qualified for the FLTRP Speech and Debate National Team. They will have the opportunity to represent Chinese universities in more top-level international debate competitions to gain valuable experiences, and broaden their international perspectives.

MSB supports the diverse development of students, hoping that team members will enhance their debating skills and communication abilities through participating in English debate activities, continuing to write a more brilliant chapter for the MUST Debate Team. It is also hoped that they can showcase their talents and enhance themselves through different platforms.
