MUST School of Business Students achieved outstanding result at the 6th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Accounting & Business Knowledge Competition

Guided by the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Guangdong Provincial Committee and hosted by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation Promotion Association, the final of the “6th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Accounting & Business Knowledge Competition” was held at Foshan University on 15 November 2025. The competition attracted 71 teams from 36 universities across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau, with the enthusiastic participation of 284 participants. After the preliminary rounds in the three regions, 10 university teams advanced to the final. Following multiple rounds of competition, the “MUST SHINE” team from the School of Business (MSB) at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) achieved outstanding result in the Macau region competition with their exceptional excellence performance, winning the merit award and advancing to the finals with the highest overall score. Team member also received the “Best Individual Performance Award”, showcasing the team’s professionalism and superb competition skills.

The “MUST SHINE” team comprised of 4 accounting students, including Year 4 students Zhang Jiaming, Gao Shu, and Sun Qixin, along with Year 3 student An Zhiyi. With team members’ fabulous performance, as well as the supervision by Associate Professor Lyu Chan and Assistant Professor Zhang Ruopiao, they received high recognition from the judges for their excellent rebuttal debate on the topic “For developing start-up enterprises, a first-class business model is more important than first-class technology”. They stood out and achieved the highest total scores in both the team presentation and debate sections. The members then demonstrated remarkable composure, calmness, and collaborative strategy during the team buzzer-round and risk challenge sections. Ultimately, they won the merit award and successfully concluded the competition.

Zhang Jiaming, who was awarded the “Best Individual Performance Award”, stated that the competition not only expanded his knowledge in accounting and finance, but also honed his logical thinking and ability to react under pressure through the debate. He described it as a valuable experience that “trained both his mind and his courage”.

This year’s competition, adhering to the principle of “Promoting Learning and Integration through Competition”, aimed to foster professional exchange in accounting and business among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau. The topics closely aligned with contemporary developments, covering areas such as accounting standards, auditing, tax law, company law, digitalization and AI application, trends in the Greater Bay Area development, etc., reflecting the practical applications and cutting-edge trends of the accounting profession in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area construction. The final panel of judges comprised senior experts from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, ensuring the professionalism, fairness, and authority of the competition. 10 university teams from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau gathered to engage in a multi-segment, high-level professional competition, which included three key segments: “Debate”, “Striving for First” and “Final Decision”, allowing the participating teams to comprehensively showcase their expertise in professional knowledge, teamwork, innovative thinking, presentation skills, and risk decision-making abilities.
