MUST School of Business Students won a prize at the Macau Economics Paper Competition

On December 15, 2024, the award ceremony of the “14th Macau Economics Paper Competition” organized by the Macau Economic Association was grandly held in the 4th Floor Grand Hall of the Macau Tower. Representatives from the government, community organizations, and related academic institutions were invited to attend for interactive exchanges.

Four students from the School of Business at the Macau University of Science and Technology – Kaitong Wang (a graduate of the Bachelor of Business Administration program, Class of 2024, currently enrolled in a master’s program at the University of Macau), Jiayi Tan (a third-year student in the Bachelor of Applied Economics program), Yifan Jiang (a first-year student in the Doctoral Program in Management), and Ziyi Wang (a fourth-year student in the Bachelor of Applied Economics program) – were awarded the Outstanding Award of student group. Their winning essay, titled “Planning and Pathways for the Economic Development of Medical Tourism in Macao,” aligns with Macau’s “1+4” industrial planning, focusing on the implementation pathways for industrial development. It involved in-depth research to identify a feasible entry point, capturing the social welfare and economic potential of introducing cutting-edge international medical technologies to Macau. This essay reflects the students’ keen interest and participation in social welfare and economic development, showcasing their solid academic research foundation and relevant skills. The essay was guided by Professor Jinghua Zhang, the Assistant Dean of the School.

The Macau Economics Paper Competition, organized by the Macau Economic Association, encourages attention and research on economic issues in Macau from various sectors of society. It has been held continuously for 14 years, becoming a highly regarded academic event in Macau. Coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Macau’s return, this year’s research themes include an economic review and perspective for the 25th anniversary of the return, as well as discussions on moderate diversification of economic industries. This year, more than 200 participants registered, with over 80 submissions, setting a record for the competition. The organizers invited experts for a comprehensive and independent academic review.

The four award-winning students expressed their honor in contributing their talents to Macau’s development, particularly during the 25th anniversary of Macau’s return to the motherland. The School of Business at the Macau University of Science and Technology is dedicated to cultivating students’ global perspectives and sense of social responsibility. Through participation in various academic competitions, the School enhances students’ practical abilities and innovative thinking. The School congratulates Kaitong Wang, Jiayi Tan, Yifan Jiang, and Ziyi Wang on their achievements and looks forward to their continued efforts, hoping they will achieve even greater success in their academic and professional careers in the future.
