Li Daokui spoke on “Government and Market Economics: A Summary and Prospect on China's Economic Development”

The Institute of Development Economics of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) held the Lecture of the Distinguished Lecture Series on Sep 20, 2024, at 3:00 PM in D Hall. Professor David Daokui Li, Director of Academic Center for Chinese Economic Practice and Thinking, also known as ACCEPT, of Tsinghua University, delivered the keynote speech. The university invited local finance, economics, and policy research experts and scholars to participate in a round-table discussion. The event aims to promote a greater understanding of China's economics through high-quality academic lectures and discussions. The event is supported by MSB.

Leaders from MUST and distinguished guests attended the event, including Dr. Liu Chak Wan, Chancellor of MUST; Representatives of Research and Statistics Department from the Monetary Authority of Macao; CEO Du Miaomiao of the Macau Development Bank; Professor Tong Kai Chung, President of Macau Institute of Management; Professor Siu Fai Leung, Professor of Economics of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; Professor Sheng Ni, Dean of the School of Business of MUST; Chair Professor Francis T Lui of the Institute of Development Economics of MUST; Professor Liu Chengkun of the Institute for Sustainable Development of MUST; Professor Lin Yongjia, Director of the Department of Accounting and Finance of the School of Business of MUST and others. Nearly 400 participants attended the lecture, including local experts, scholars in finance, economics, and policy research fields, as well as teachers and students from MUST, which made the event lively and engaging.

During his presentation, Professor Li discussed “Government and Market Economics: Summary and Prospects of China’s Economic Development”, sharing insights of summarized the potential, existing issues, and future development path of China's economic development, and put forward corresponding policy recommendations.

Chair Professor Francis T Lui moderated the panel discussion. Participating in the discussion were Professor David Daokui Li; CEO Du Miaomiao; Professor Tong Kai Chung and Professor Lin Yongjia. The discussion focused on engaging in-depth exchanges and discussions on relevant topics such as how to innovate consumption, stimulate demand, and develop new productive forces.

The lecture concluded amidst enthusiastic interaction during the question-and-answer session, followed by a resounding applause throughout the audience.

Professor David Daokui Li is a leading Chinese economist. He is a Professor of Economics, and the Director of Academic Center for Chinese Economic Practice and Thinking, known as the ACCEPT, of Tsinghua University. Together with Eric S. Maskin, 2007 Nobel Laureate of Economics, he is a Co-president of the Society for the Analysis of Government and Economics (SAGE). He also served as the founding Dean of the Schwarzman College of Tsinghua University. His research and teaching cover a wide range of economic fields, including government and economics, economic development, comparative economics, and the Chinese economy. As the Director of the Center for China in the World Economy (CCWE), which has evolved to become the Academic Center for Chinese Economic Practice and Thinking (ACCEPT) of Tsinghua University, he has been active in policy discussions inside and outside China. Since 2008, he has been a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Professor David Daokui Li holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University. He obtained his B.S. from Tsinghua University in 1985 as a member of the first cohort of graduates of the School of Economics and Management.
