Professor Albert P.C. Chan delivered a keynote speech titled “Interdisciplinary Research: Breaking Down Walls to Build Knowledge”. He highlighted the urgent need for integrated approaches to address complex global challenges such as climate change and AI ethics. Professor Chan defined interdisciplinary research as a process of deep synthesis across multiple fields, emphasizing its cyclical nature – framing problems, building diverse teams, creating shared language, and producing innovative solutions. While acknowledging challenges such as communication barriers and evaluation difficulties, he underscored the transformative rewards: holistic solutions, groundbreaking innovation, enhanced funding opportunities, and greater societal impact. His closing message was clear – the future of research lies in collaboration beyond disciplinary boundaries.
