To help students quickly familiarize themselves with the competition arrangements and registration rules of “The Fifth FinTech Innovation Competition”, School of Business (MSB) of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) hosted the “Online Briefing and Experience Sharing Session of The Fifth Macau FinTech Innovation Competition for Macau College Students”. The event invited three members and their advisor from the champion team of “The Fourth FinTech Innovation Competition for Macau College Students” to share their competition experience and preparation tips, attracting a number of students participating online. The session was chaired by Professor Tang Huajun, Assistant Dean of MSB.
Assistant Dean Tang delivered a briefing to the faculty and students at the beginning of the event, while provided a detailed introduction to the competition schedule, judging criteria, submission format, and deadlines for this competition. Using the previous outstanding case as an example, Assistant Dean Tang emphasized the importance innovative thinking and encouraged students to actively participate, showcase their creativity, and demonstrate their comprehensive abilities.

Following this, the Fourth Macau champion team members Mou Bingqian, Yuan Yining, and Guo Haoxuan, shared their practical experiences from multiple perspectives. Mou Bingqian emphasized the importance of mindset and understanding of the business competitions, noting the need for the teams to shift from “tasks completion” to “problems solving”, and to continuously refine their work through intrinsic motivation. Regarding team building and collaboration, she highlighted the criticality of “precise division of labor” and “efficient collaboration”, using the “2+1” team structure as an example to illustrate how students from MSB and Faculty of Innovation Engineering could leverage their respective strengths to achieve interdisciplinary cooperation and achieved the “1+1+1>3” effect.

Yuan Yining focused on sharing tips on preparing for the semi-finals and finals, including presentation content design and visual presentation, strategies for on-site presentations and response times during the Q&A session. She advised participants to prioritize logical visualization, integrating graphics, text, and data, and maintain a consistent presentation style to enhance their professionalism. For on-site presentation, she emphasized the importance of formal attire, eye contact, fluency and confidence. She also recommended the participants to understand the questions, team collaboration, and responding honestly during Q&A session.

Guo Haoxuan shared insights from the perspective of problem analysis and topic selection, highlighting the importance of identifying the right direction, considering the pain points and significance, and ensuring sufficient supporting data. Citing the SMART principle, he suggested that topics should be “Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound” to enhance the feasibility and persuasiveness of the proposals.

Lastly, Professor Lin Yongjia, the champion team’s advisor, emphasized key points such as team division of labour, identify business pain points, and ensure technical feasibility. She encouraged students to seize the opportunity, innovate actively, and embrace challenges.

The event successfully established a valuable platform for experience sharing and academic exchange, effectively igniting students’ enthusiasm for innovation and exploration in the FinTech field. MSB will continue to support such activities, to help cultivate interdisciplinary talents with innovative mindsets and practical skills, injecting new momentum into the development of financial technology in Macau.
