Explores Blockchain’s Impact on Charity with MCO Students of MSB
On 12 November 2024, Mr. Stevenson Chan, COO of the Hong Kong-based fintech startup Coda Bridge, delivered an insightful guest talk on “New Technology for Charity” to year one students of Master of Charity and Social Organization Management (MCO) at the School of Business of MUST.
Mr. Chan’s presentation highlighted how blockchain technology can enhance transparency, expand fundraising opportunities, and build donor trust. He explained the concept of purpose bound money, a digital currency that ensures donations are used for specific charitable goals, as well as its technical and business applications across various contexts.
In the Q&A session, Mr. Chan had in-depth discussions with students about policy support for blockchain applications in the nonprofit sector and explored potential risks and challenges. Mr. Chan also encouraged students to embrace new technologies, recommending that they develop skills in coding and programming to stay adaptable in an evolving sector.
This guest talk provided MCO students with valuable insights into how emerging technologies, particularly blockchain, are transforming the landscape of charity and nonprofit work.
Coda Bridge, a fintech startup specializing in blockchain platforms, has developed solutions for charities and other sectors. It launched Hong Kong’s first Purpose Bound Money project in collaboration with Ronald McDonald House Charities and has expanded these innovative solutions to charities in Singapore.
