On October 28-29, first-year students from the Master’s Program in Charity and Social Organization Management (MCO) at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) organized a fundraising event on campus as part of their Charity Fundraising course supervised by Assistant Prof. Dr. Qianjin Zhang. This event, held on the 5th and 6th floors of Building O, aimed to raise funds for two local charities: the General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macau and the Fuhong Society of Macau.
The General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macau is dedicated to offering essential community services, especially for elderly residents living alone. Meanwhile, the Fuhong Society of Macau focuses on providing diverse services for individuals with intellectual disabilities and mental health needs in rehabilitation.
Working in groups, the students designed a variety of creative fundraising activities, including the sale of charity products, handmade Chinese art fans, and mystery boxes. After two days of effort, students successfully raised over MOP 9,000 for the General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macau and MOP 13,000 for the Fuhong Society of Macau. The total amount was more than MOP 22,000 and all funds raised have been donated to the respective organizations through QR codes and bank transfers.
Charity Fundraising is a compulsory course of the MCO program. Students are expected to learn how to assemble a fundraising team, conduct donor market research, develop a fundraising plan, and execute fundraising activities by using a variety of strategies. This hands-on experience provided MCO students with valuable skills in charity fundraising while positively impacting the community.
