MUST Students Won the Second Prize and the Third Prize at the First Global Supply Chain Modelling Contest

MUST students won the second prize and the third prize at the first global supply chain modelling contest (GSCMC for short). It was sponsored by US CSCMP (China), and co-organized by LLamsoft and Beijing Logis Ltd. It focused on the topic of “Better Designing, Better Efficiency,” and invited student teams from domestic and overseas universities to apply supply chain theory, methods, and techniques (e.g., supply chain guru X) to solve problems in real world.

The 30 teams won out among over 146 competitors from 86 universities offering the study major in supply chain management, after the online training and the first round contest, and competed finally at Southwest Jiaotong University during 23 and 24 November 2019.

MUST student team of “MUST-U” won the Second Prize, and the team members are Fu Han, Lu Jiaxin and Yuan Yihan. Another MUST team of “MUST001” won the Third Prize, and the team members are Wu Fengming, Wu Ruoqi, Ren Siyuan, Chen Shaobin and Jiang Ziyan. Furthermore, MUST won the unique prize “The Best Participation” and the prize “The Best Organization”.

The two teams proposed their corresponding solutions to reduce safety stock level so as to optimize the total inventory cost, with respect to demand classification, supply chain type, service level and cost. They are both supervised by Dr. Tang Huajun, Head of Department of Decision Sciences, at School of Business, MUST.

During the final competition, the judgers highly appraised the two teams’ presentation projects and performance, and offered some good suggestion. Prof. Lin Zhijun, Vice President & Dean of School of Business, expressed that MSB students have been trained to apply theory and methods in real business, and MSB sets up training labs for each major so as to improve the ability of analysing and solving real business issues. The university warmly congratulated our students and teachers for their excellent competition achievements.
